After breakfast, depart from your hotel and drive to Kilimanjaro National Park, where your mountain adventure begins. Upon arrival at Marangu Gate (approximately 1,830 meters), you’ll complete the park registration before meeting your professional mountain guide and starting your trek.
Follow the scenic Marangu Route, often referred to as the “Coca-Cola Route,” as you hike through the lush montane rainforest filled with towering trees, colorful wildflowers, and a variety of birdlife. With a bit of luck, you may even spot blue monkeys or black-and-white colobus monkeys along the trail.
The trek gradually ascends to Mandara Hut (approximately 2,700 meters), the first overnight camp for climbers attempting the summit. Here, you’ll enjoy a packed picnic lunch while taking in the peaceful mountain surroundings.
If time, weather, and energy levels permit, continue on a short hike to the nearby Maundi Crater, where you’ll be rewarded with spectacular panoramic views of Mount Kilimanjaro, northern Tanzania, and, on clear days, neighboring Kenya.
After exploring the area, descend back to Marangu Gate, where your driver will be waiting to transfer you to your lodge in Arusha or Moshi. Relax, enjoy a delicious dinner, and spend the night preparing for the next day’s adventure.
